SOME PHOTOGRAPHS OF VEHICLES EARMARKED FOR PRESERVATION BUT WHICH SADLY DIDN'T MAKE IT
ULSTERBUS BRISTOL RELL6G - BXI2583 - 2583. This vehicle was scrapped in 2014.
BELFAST CORPORATION DENNIS LANCET CZ7011 No 100. Vehicle was to have been restored by a group from the University of Ulster. This did not materialise and this view taken in 1985 in Portstewart shows the vehicle being scrapped. It did however provide parts in the restoration of Belfast Corporation Guy Arab No 286
ex BELFAST CORPORATION DAIMLER FLEETLINE CRG6 - 596 EZ - No596. The vehicle was to have been preserved by the Irish Transport Trust but owing to chassis problems was sent for scrap.
ULSTERBUS LEYLAND LEOPARD COI 520 No 520 sent for scrap
ex UTA LEYLAND TIGER CUB 7474 CZ No 474 was lost in an accident
LOUGH SWILLY - LEYLAND ATLANTEAN PDR/1 - UI 8616 No87 which was unfortunately vandalised and sent for scrap
ULSTERBUS BEDFORD YLQ LOI 1859 - 1859
This rare and poor quality photograph depicts BELFAST CORPORATION GUY ARAB 111 MZ7387 No 289. It was converted to a mobile library in 1964 - this view being taken on 25th June 1977. Rescued by the Irish Transport Trust for use as spares for No286. The vehicle was eventually scrapped.
BELFAST CORPORATION DAIMLER COG5 EZ8975 No130. The vehicle was initially saved for preservation in the condition seen below. Regrettably however, as can be seen from the photograph, the damage was too extensive to save it and the vehicle was scrapped in the early 1970s
Former UTA/ULSTERBUS LEYLAND PD2/10c - 1777OI - 777 - last of this batch of to be built. Withdrawn by Ulsterbus in 1972, it survived, parked adjacent to the Ballygawley to Omagh road until 1992, when, despite several attempts by preservationists to save it, was eventually towed away and scrapped.
ex UTA/ULSTERBUS LEYLAND PS2 - MZ1931 - C8860 illustrated here as an Ulsterbus tow bus. The vehicle was acquired for spares for PS2 8858 but fell into disrepair in the late 1970s early 80s and was scrapped. (Photo courtesy of Howard Cunningham)
ex UTA LEYLAND TIGER CUB - UZ302 No 302. Seen here in faded Swilly livery. The vehicle survived as a shed near Letterkenny, Co Donegal (see the Wrecks n Relics page) and was recovered as a source of spares for UZ334. It was eventually scrapped in 2003.
ULSTERBUS LEYLAND LEOPARD 4037WZ - 1337. Preserved by the Irish Transport Trust and seen here at an ITT rally in Carrickfergus. Sadly, the vehicle was maliciously destroyed in Antrim Depot in October 1990. (Photograph kindly supplied by Richard Whitford who retains all copyright)
ULSTERBUS LEYLAND LEOPARD 4001WZ - 1301. This vehicle was to have been restored by Ulsterbus staff in Londonderry. However, on examination, it was discovered that there was extensive body corrosion and the project was terminated. The vehicle eventually being scrapped.
